Showcase Event - 19 September

DAVID DODDINGTON

A special four song set from the marvellous DD. A cover of ‘16 Tuns’ was a great start to the night. David has great presence, soul and melody. ‘If You Want Me To Love You’ and ‘Best Love’ (for Sally) were excellent.

THE DAVID IMRIE TRIO

David with long-time collaborator Rob Illesh plus new mate Ben Kidds (an excellent addition on Double Bass) put in as classier a performance as we’ve ever seen. ’Man of Words’ and ‘Spirit Wandering’ - traditional/acoustic at its best.

STEVE GRATTAN

Here’s a chap just starting out on his acoustic voyage. New on the scene but making great progress we reckon. ‘You’re By My Side’ and a thoroughly enjoyable cover of ‘Time’. Well Done!

AKAYZIA PARKER

Second time at One Night Stand Acoustic but a real quality act. ‘Let It Go’ and particularly ‘Tender’ showed great sensitivity and feeling. The guitar and percussion accompaniment was first rate too.

JAMES LOCKHART

This bloke’s really good. Two songs delivered with pride and passion. ‘Passenger’ and in particular ‘Black and White’ show what a fine singer and writer he is. He’ll be back!

BYRON JOHNSTONE

As we said at the time, these people (in this case friend Terry Barnden – thanks) just call me. What a f***** genius! An acoustic melange of flamenco / classical / electro / something else. A musical magician who is indescribably good brought the house down. We locked him in a cupboard ready for next time.

KIRSTY FULLER

She was dead worried ‘cos she had to follow Byron. She needn’t have worried. Her engaging charm, musical talent and haunting vocals won over everyone. ’Into The Burning Sun’ was spiffing!

CADENZA

OK, keyboard genius Mark (even with his horrible light!) may be a mate but this trio was excellent entertainment. Together with Kate and Bryoni with cello, piano, two flutes plus recorder. We had ‘Irish Air’, ‘Canada’ plus, the highlight, a ‘Kate piano-led original’. Thanks.

ESCAPE

Waiting For Oblivion’ is a great song with a great acoustic solo (gets me every time). ‘I Scream’ and ’Deeper’ followed. This trio really works and they just get better and better.

CLAIRE McAULEY

You couldn’t dislike Claire however hard you tried. She has a pure and enchanting quality. Her wonderful voice engages you from the start of the first line. ‘Adonis’, ‘Dear Enemy’ and a bluesy ‘House of The Rising Sun’ tonight. A thought...how about a 3-piece with bass/keys plus guitar leaving you to maximise the vocal performance?

MOTHER OF PEARL

A very entertaining trio. ‘Tied Down By The Bottle’ and ‘Purple Clouds’ were worthy songs. We have to admit we’re not sure about the guitar sound but (and it’s a big but) the performance of ‘My Way’ was absolutely awesome. Anthony leads them with passion and enthusiasm. Enjoyable.
